![]() If money is tight I personally would always prioritize more RAM over a before GPU. Last time I checked the benefits of a GPU for PS were not spectacular except for a few functions that are impossible without a GPU, things like warping and distortion. Ordered 16" M1 Max 24C GPU 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD. But boy that 14" M1 pro is a beast compared to my old 2013 MBP. Coming from 2013 15" model, could get adjusted to smaller screen. No doubt NX gives the best color, perfectly matching to camera jpeg. (And the 元 cache likely isn't even relevant when the GPU does the lifting.)Īgree, NX is slow, but I think it gives the best raw processing - batch and walk away The GPUs and higher memory bandwidth will all help since modern NEF images are much larger than the 元 cache. (That's an i7-10875H, 64GB RAM) I have the new 16" M1 Max with 32GB RAM and the 1TB SSD on order. On my Windows laptop with an RTX 2060 a Z7 NEF export takes about 2 seconds (the task viewer rounds it to 2s), vs 17 seconds using the CPU + Intel integrated graphics. Of course running C1, NX studio, Topaz labs concurrently is no fun.įor DxO PhotoLab 4 (and maybe more so 5), you want a fast GPU. However, before I jump to new MacBook, want to make sure I am choosing right option, RAM vs GPU. Question is what benefits Capture NX or other softwares, GPU or RAM?Īgree. M1 Max, 64 GB RAM, 32 core GPU, 1 or 2TB SSD M1 Max, 32 GB RAM, 32 core GPU, 1 or 2TB SSDĤ. M1 max, 32 GB RAM, 28 core GPU, 1 or 2TB SSDģ. M1 pro, 16GB RAM, 16 core GPU, 1 or 2TB SSDĢ. GPU: M1 pro 16 core gpu or Max 28 core vs Max 32 core. If the increased memory bandwidth will be beneficialģ. I see 16 and 32 working almost identically. I do have external SSD backup option and time machine backup. ![]() I do want to keep the laptop for long, say 8-10 years TIFF rarely(only when using NIK or Topaz) So, for me it is important that machine will be able to run smoothly with all of these softwares open. I also use Topaz labs, NIK collection, Perfect photo suite, DXO viewpoint. Not all softwares are equal and they all have different rendering and of course they have different tools. However, I compare LR, Capture1, DXO, NX Studio(primary software) side by side often times. Posting in Nikon forum as I primarily use Capture NX or NX studio for raw processing. Capture NX or photo softwares: More GPU or more RAM for M1 pro/Max. ![]()
